Only Temporary...

Since we're screwing around with the template today....

I get the sense that, in general, you lean toward blues. This one's a little soft for our name, though. Maybe more of a hard, ice blue with deeper tones. Plus it would be nice to have a little continuity with our previous look. I don't even recognize this as the Cringing Goblin.

So are my previous changes lost? I hadn't bothered to save it since I figured it would still be here. Believe it or not, it took a good hour to fine-tune the different shades of green, red, and blue. Without that it would have been even worse. And in case you don't go back to it, my last response from the discussion on the other post:

"Wait, are you saying it makes you cringe? Maybe that's a good thing. Goblins aren't pretty, you know." :-)

Oh, and in case you were wondering . . . while I didn't really expect others to care for it, I did like the goblin green and blood red look. It's not what I would have picked from scratch, but in light of our name and the template we had, I thought it wasn't too bad. I used Peter Jackson's image of Minas Morgul as my inspiration.

The clean blues are too fresh-looking for a cringing goblin, in my opinion. Also, your flavor text at the top is really blurry.

I didn't get to see Degolar's red and green..

I agree with Scott, waaaay to fresh. Maybe if this blog was devoted to Mary Kay I could understand the blue.

Personally, I liked the old black look, and I actually liked the green and red (but green IS my favorite color).

Instead of "The Cringing Goblin" you could change the name to "The Frolicking Elve Princess" to fit this new blue template.

Did everyone miss the "temporary", and Chris's color scheme was nothing short of hideous.

I try not to let fancy "words" and their "definitions" get in the way of an opportunity to make fun of something.

Seriously, you have to go back to the black background at least.

Sorry degolar, but the changes are lost-- I didn't even think about that before changing again, you honestly like that color scheme?

I definitely liked the green on black. Kind of the Minas Morgul thing, kind of a goblin thing, and kind of a high-tech DOSish kind of thing you see in movies. I wasn't sure about the red, but wanted a secondary color and landed on that. And I wanted to keep the links blue since they always are. That shade seemed the best after much testing.

As for what to do instead . . . I like lots of colors, so in general I'm easy. For this title/theme, though, it needs an edge. I'm thinking black background over white, but can be persuaded. It's always hard to find the right amount of contrast so it doesn't hurt your eyes, but I thought too much of what we've always had is too subtle. Sometimes I have to search to find the date and some of the other faint stuff.

So that's my criteria. What are you looking for?

That red's on fire! I feel like the brightness is turned up too high on my monitor!

Degolar said...

Slightly not-black background?

(And I added a new link before you make more changes.)

I don't mind the dark blue, but the light blue is a little off. . . and what's with the text color? Is that still blue, or is my monitor funky? How about a light grey instead?

Degolar said...

It's supposed to be a monochromatic blue thing. Here was my inspiration this time. But it's all just play until something strikes a chord with everyone.

It looks a bit neon now.

Degolar said...

You say neon like it's a bad thing. And the green that you like wasn't?

asdfasdfadfasd said...

I didn't think the green looked neon. This could be rough on the eyes.

You could have a black background with black text and blow everybody's mind. Then you could market it as modern art and get rich.

OK, I did it with the sun coming in over my shoulder earlier and it looked good. Now that it's dark I can see what you mean about neon.
